1 gallon hot peppers ( I use Hungarian wax peppers)
1 cup vegetable oil
2 cups sugar
2 cups vinegar
2 30 oz bottles of catsup
7 packs of hot dogs (or more)
1 tbs salt
- Cut peppers in rings. I leave the seeds in for extra spice but you can remove them if you don't want the extra heat
- Cut the hotdogs into bite size pieces
- Mix all ingredients, except peppers, in a large bowl
- Cook at medium heat to a boil. Stir often to keep from sticking
- Let boil for 5 or so minutes, then add peppers
- Cook just long enough for peppers to start to wilt then fill your jars and seal
- Usually the jars will seal on their own as they cool but you can do a hot water bath for about 20 minutes if you're concerned about the seal
I had forgotten all about these! My grandma use to make these all the time; what a great memory. Thanks for posting!
